Stars, papers and dentists…

  • Mood: hmm
  • Music: Claire Sproule
  • Current book status: been at school all day

Spent day at school doing governor stuff (interviewing - was very interesting). Came home to email from my pal Hilary Johnson saying sorry she couldn’t make my book reading in Ladies’ Fashions (yeah, I know – fat, frumpy me in the fashion dept??) in our local department store next Tuesday.

Cue panic.

I know I agreed to do it some weeks ago, but a) I’d forgotten it was half term and b) they hadn’t actually sent me the confirmation letter. So I'd assumed that it wasn’t going ahead and, in typical PR bod fashion, they’d forgotten to tell me. (I can say this because I spent a lot of my ratrace years in PR/marketing communications, and I know how easily things are forgotten!) Anyway, rang to check – so if anyone reading this is in Norwich next Tuesday at 11.30, please come and say hello to me in Jarrolds.

So now I have to decide which scenes I’m going to read. And practise them. I think I’ll do one from Where the Heart Is and one from The Consultant’s Christmas Proposal. Do I go all-out for the weepie bit? Or what? Anyway, it’s going to be fun. I might make Chris my official photographer. DH can’t get any time off, but I wonder if my dad might like a day out? On second thoughts, it’d put me off. So the kids will be watching. And they have a carrot: going up two floors to the toy dept if they’re good, and being grounded for the whole of the half-term hols if they’re not…

Discovered it was in a supplement in the local paper. Which DH had thrown away (right…) Was also highly amused by local paper getting my pseudonym and real name the wrong way round. And they also have Norwich Street by Street coming out this month… er, no. I did explain that it had been moved! Ah well. It's advance publicity.

Actually, it’s been a grim day. Chris had toothache last night. It was too late for me to ask someone to step in to my shoes today, so DH took some time in lieu and trotted son to dentist. Son had a hole in his tooth. Son now has his first filling. And I will be brushing his teeth/supervising very closely for the next month until I am sure that he’s doing it properly. I hate it when my babies aren’t well and I can’t fix it instantly. (Yeah, yeah. So I have a Superwoman complex.) But I did get the proof of Madam's school photo (which is very cute) and also received something nice in the post from Wendy. (It involved Hotel Chocolat.) In return, I have to say in public that Clever Bobby Is Officially Cute. So here it is. I've said it. (She didn’t say I couldn’t have my fingers crossed when I said it… )
